Since the appointment of Gary Monk at Sheffield Wednesday things haven’t always looked positive for the owls. A new manager bounce meant the club were sat second in the championship table on Christmas day.

Things then turned sour for Monks side as they were only able to collect 17 points from a potential 63 with which saw the club end the season 16th in the table. As well as this the club were slapped with a 12 point deduction for the following season by the FA

The owls boss said in multiple interviews in the tail end of the season suggesting a big reshuffle would be happening in the summer transfer window with him stressing that players would only remain at the club if they showed a willingness to put the effort in.

This has led to a number of big stars leaving the club including top goal scorer Steven Fletcher as well as Fernando Forestieri, Sam Hutchinson and fan favourite Atdhe Nuhiu. This has meant that the club have had to recruit and they have done wisely with Josh Windass and Chey Dunkley maybe being key for the owls’ survival hopes. Ex loanees Joost van Aken and Matthew Penney have also returned to the first team.

Gary Monks team have made an impressive start to the 2020/21 season having played 5, keeping 5 clean sheets and already being up to -8 having played Cardiff and Watford in two tough league fixtures.

Monk has seemed to have set a high standard for his players and with the current form they give themselves a good chance of playing championship football again next season.
